Radiology

Thanks to a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), our Quantum Medical Imaging, Dual Detector Digital Radiography Suite is up and running. We now have the fastest image preview on the market, giving the technologist an image preview in three (3) seconds or less. The digital detectors are manufactured by Cannon Medical Imaging and provide better image quality than conventional or CR radiography. This technology also drastically shortens the time the patient is in Radiology for diagnostic radiography and creates a lower dose of ionizing radiation to the patient. Many large hospitals in the Lexington area are still waiting to receive this technology.

We also replaced our end-of-life Fuji Medical CR Unit with a new state-of-the-art Konica Minolta CR Unit, that will support our existing Toshiba R&F Room, as well as our new GE AMX-4 Portable Radiography Unit. The new portable unit will replace our existing unit, which was manufactured in 1977. We were also able to replace our EZ-EM CT Power Injector with a new Med Rad Stellant, CT Power Injector System, that will be used in the administration of contrast media (X-RAY) with our existing Toshiba Aquilion 16 Slice CT Scanner.

The Toshiba Aquilion 16 Slice Spiral CT Scanner technology allows 32 pictures to be taken every second, resulting in both less scan time and increased patient comfort. With this technology, Nicholas County residents have available, close to home, the most advanced procedures in computed tomography, including body scans, virtual colonoscopies, lung cancer screenings, and other procedures in the forefront of medical technology.
